Centers of New York is a nationally recognized center of excellence.
This group is led by surgeons, radiation
oncologists, medical oncologists, dentists, nurses, radiologists,
pathologists, psychiatrists, nutritionists, and others who
bring enormous expertise to the clinical program. The Institute
for Head and Neck Cancer led by Louis
B. Harrison, MD; Roy
B. Sessions, MD, FACS; Mark
S. Persky, MD is one of New York's leading centers
for the multidisciplinary treatment of cancers of the head
and neck.
A major focus of the Institute is organ and function preservation
for patients with cancers of the oral tongue, base of tongue,
larynx, hypopharynx, and eye. Multi-modality protocols using
chemotherapy, radiation oncology, and surgical approaches
in various combinations are aimed at eliminating the cancer
while preserving the functional outcomes and improving the
quality of life. For those patients with skull base tumors,
our skull base surgery team offers state-of-the-art expertise
in tumor resection. Special radiation techniques including
stereotactic radiotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, brachytherapy,
and intraoperative radiation are key components of
the multidisciplinary management of skull base tumors.
In collaboration with New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, our
multidisciplinary team of specialists have extensive background
in treating tumors of the eye and orbit. This is a specialized
area of practice, and our physicians are among the most experienced
in the country.
